Valentine’s Day Countdown/Bash Day 5: The Reset Button (+Contest) 13

Happy Thursday everyone! We’re getting closer and closer to Valentine’s Day and our countdown continues with number 5 on my list of favorite romantic movie moments. Since yesterday’s movie moment was a tear-jerker I thought we’d go on the lighter side today, although there are parts of the movie I’ve chosen for today that make me cry as well. What can I say, I’m an emotional person!

Before I get started I just want to remind everyone of what we’re playing for and how to win. If you’re just joining us, the details of the giveaway are on the Day 1 post, and each day and post offers another entry for the prizes. The links are below for your convenience, so you can start from the beginning and work your way through! Don’t miss as single entry opportunity!

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

I can honestly say that when it comes to Adam Sandler movies, I often find myself on the fence. He’s hilarious, but sometimes I feel it’s a bit much. It can be obnoxious. I have a list of his movies I love and on the other side a list that I hate. When the romantic comedy, 50 First Dates hit theaters, I skipped it. Watching all the schtick in the movie trailers just didn’t appeal. It wasn’t until this movie came out on video and appeared on network TV that I decided to give it a try. I was NOT expecting to cry, or even to fall in love with Sandler’s character a tiny bit (okay, a lot). I mean, we’re talking about a guy that loves a girl so much, he doesn’t care that she wakes up every morning with her memory wiped clean like someone hit a reset button in her head. Everything that happened after a nasty car accident cannot be retained and she is stuck in the past, living the same day over and over again until she meets Henry. Henry’s idea of telling Lucy the truth instead of letting her live the same day over and over again is the kind of move not a lot of men would make. We’re talking about investing a lot of your life in breaking a woman’s heart every morning and making her fall in love with you again by the end of the day.

Talk about a grand gesture.

It is for that reason that the final scene of 50 First Dates brings tears to my eyes every time I see it.  I don’t know if any men like this exist out there, but I’d like to think there are a few who would do something so wonderful for someone they loved!

For today’s entry, I want to know about the most selfless act of love you’ve ever witness, whether it was done for you, by you, or to someone else you know. And by selfless, I don’t mean grand, I mean the most UNselfish thing you’ve ever seen! It doesn’t have to be romantic love either, anything goes! Be sure to check off on the Rafflecopter widget so your entry counts!

I think my daughter was in first grade when she came home without socks, no sweater and no notebooks. One of her little friends had none of them, and she thought she could share because she had so much. What we didn’t know was that her little friend’s mother had left suddenly, leaving her father to raise 3 boys and a girl alone – and he was totally clueless. We had always talked about being grateful for having enough, and being able to share when possible with those who had less – but that day really brought the lesson home and I knew then she was listening and practicing.

Wow. that has to be one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard! Good for you for teaching your daughter now the importance of being kind to others! They learn so young.

A friend of mine gave her baby up for adoption. She really wanted to keep it, but she could barely afford her own apartment and keep afloat while working 3 jobs to come up with tuition. The boyfriend bailed on her when she was 4 months pregnant and her parents weren’t able to help out financially. In the end she picked a couple who had been wanting children for years and they were able to give the baby the opportunities she wouldn’t be able to give him. She picked an open adoption and gets to see her son for birthdays and some holidays.

Talk about selfless! I know it had to be hard not to think about how bad she wanted to baby, but the kind of life he could have. What a blessing to that couple, too. Your friend is a phenomenal person!

That’s wonderful that you have so many great people in your life, how great for your sister too.

I can never get enough of A Walk to Remember. The telescope, one foot across the stateline and just dancing under the moonlight were all such beautiful moments.

My mom told me this story once about my dad. He had went out to get something from the store for mom which should have taken about 20 mins round trip. Dad got home 2 hours later and didn’t get what mom sent him to get. Mom was furious until he told her what happened. When he got to the gas station there was a young couple with a 4 month old baby. They had a flat tire, no spare and very little money. The young man was trying to move his family from OH to NC for a better job. Dad took the tire off n tried to have it plugged at a local tire shop but the hole was in the sidewall so it wasn’t fixable. Dad took the last bit of money he had and bought a new tire of the young couple so they could be on their way. Dad said the young woman was in tears as she hugged him and thanked him for all the help. Dad will always be my hero

It was for selfish reasons, but my husband moved here to be with me and my kids, leaving his entire family, friends, and life on another continent. I still think of it as a selfless act because I know I wouldn’t be able to do it.
